Allen Millyard’s Viper V10 is now on display at the National Motorcycle Museum. After its sale at a July auction, new owner Tim Whittaker explored the machine on track with its builder’s guidance. Visitors can now see the one-off motorcycle in Hall 2.
The project began with a Dodge Viper GTS engine bought in 2004; the road-going motorcycle followed in 2009. Front and rear subframes attach to the eight-litre V10. Millyard adapted JCB hydraulic components for the handmade forks and used recalibrated Yamaha R1 rear shocks. Its scale demanded engineering the entire machine around the engine.
The bike also carried Millyard and passenger Henry Cole to a 295.31 km/h standing-start mile record at Elvington in 2023. That is no longer the current record: Jack Frost and Paul Milbourn reached 377.7 km/h on another motorcycle in 2025. The Viper’s enduring interest lies in its maker’s work: an improbable idea became a rideable machine.
