Aursjøvegen crosses the mountains between the Sunndal and Eikesdal areas. The route from Sunndalsøra to Eidsvåg via this road measures 121 kilometres, including a 55-kilometre tolled section. Its highest point reaches 947 metres above sea level.

Riders face narrow gravel, steep slopes and stretches without guardrails. The Finnsetlia tunnel is dark and winding. Heavy rain and rockfall risk can cause closures; allow more time than for an asphalt route of similar length.

The season usually begins around 1 June and ends with autumn snow. In October, the calendar alone is no basis for a trip: check current road conditions and weather before setting out. Avoid this route in snowy weather.

A signed path leads to the Aurstaupet viewpoint about 400 metres from the road. Leave space for others in the small parking area. These mountains are also wild reindeer habitat: stay on the road and at designated stops, observing animals from a distance.
