A motorcycle show can offer more than a row of new models. From 6 to 8 November, Bigtwin Bikeshow & Expo at Expo Houten in the Netherlands will focus on custom motorcycle culture. The organisers expect more than 100 motorcycles across multiple show classes. Alongside the finished machines, the programme includes builder conversations, demonstrations and workshops.

The interest in a show like this lies in details that photographs can miss: the shape of a fuel tank, the line of a seat, the placement of controls and the compromises between appearance and use. Meeting a builder can reveal how an initial idea became a rideable motorcycle. Music and a shopping area are also on the Houten programme, but the motorcycles and the people who made them remain its centre.

The three-day event ends on Sunday, 8 November, with the bikeshow awards. For anyone who follows custom motorcycle design, the gathering offers a chance to compare approaches in one place: not only polished results, but the makers’ signatures, engineering decisions and ideas they chose to emphasise.
