A travel bicycle also needs a place on the transport that takes it to the start of a route. Bike Friday co-founders Alan and Hanz Scholz developed the Pocket Rocket around their interest in road cycling and travelling with a bicycle fitted to its rider. It uses 20-inch wheels with 451 mm rims and offers custom frame sizing.

The design also considers luggage. A folded Pocket Rocket fits in a car boot, while a travel case provides another packing option. Its front and rear luggage racks are designed to pack flat alongside the bicycle. Compactness here is part of a wider transport system.

The optional Travel Trailer takes this idea further. An aluminium chassis, two 12-inch wheels and a hitch turn the Travel Case into a towable trailer. Once the bicycle comes out, its container gains a second job: carrying belongings on the next leg of the trip. It also offers an answer to the practical question of where to leave an empty suitcase while riding.
