BMW Motorrad invested more than €50 million in its new Berlin paint shop, announced in April 2026. Dry filtration and heat recovery help conserve resources. Water and energy use are projected to fall by roughly 86% and 47% respectively against the 2024 baseline.
This year, the Berlin plant reached four million motorcycles with an R 1300 GS Adventure. Complete motorcycle production moved to Spandau in 1969. Today, the site also leads an international production network, with models spanning touring, sport and urban riding. The milestone therefore represents decades of manufacturing, rather than a single year’s output.
Assembly begins by joining the frame and engine, followed by the remaining components. Workstations automatically receive the data required for each motorcycle, including tightening torques and settings. Depending on the model, assembling around 2,000 parts takes 220–360 minutes. This organisation allows motorcycles with widely differing equipment to share one factory.
