On a steep descent, mountain bike brakes need to feel predictable as the ground changes from gravel to rock. Brembo has begun offering its GR-PRO system to European mountain bike riders through selected distributors. Derived from the company’s downhill racing setup, it is now aimed at enthusiasts who want to build a braking package for their own bike.

GR-PRO was developed as a coordinated set of parts: levers and master cylinders, calipers, pads, rotors and braided hoses. Its modular design gives riders room to choose a setup that suits their bike and riding. That is relevant to e-MTB riders in particular, because bike weight and long descents put a premium on consistent brake feel and heat management. Brembo describes the components as engineered to work together; its announcement does not provide independent performance measurements.

The base kit contains two calipers with pads, two lever assemblies, braided hoses, spare pad sets and fitting parts. Brake rotors are selected separately. Before buying, riders should check mount, rotor size and hose compatibility with their frame and fork. Brakes are a safety-critical part of the bike, so fitting and bleeding them is best entrusted to a qualified mechanic.
