The 1924 BSA 6/7HP County was more than a motorcycle with an extra seat. Its Mead & Deakin Canoelet sidecar was styled like a small enclosed carriage, with room for two paying passengers side by side. A taxi meter was offered as an option.

County Cycle and Motor Co. of Birmingham marketed the combination as passenger transport. It appeared at the 1924 Olympia Motorcycle Show in London, but the idea went beyond the exhibition hall: in Brighton, the Baker Brothers operated a fleet of 20 similar machines near the seafront.

The surviving motorcycle shows how early motor transport crossed categories that now seem separate. A sturdy bike, a passenger cabin and the option of a meter together made an urban taxi alternative that looks unusual today.
