Lars Engstrøm gave Annie the first Christiania Bikes tricycle for her birthday on 16 May 1984. His idea moved children from a trailer to the front of the bicycle, keeping them in direct contact with the rider.

Wood remains the most visible element of this design. The manufacturer buys it from FSC-certified suppliers, while the construction also uses chromoly steel and aluminium. The box gives the bicycle its distinctive silhouette, with metal components forming the supporting structure.

The idea of carrying passengers ahead of the rider also appears in the Model T. Originally developed for Cycling Without Age, it seats two adults side by side. Its canopy has side windows and a rear window through which the rider can see the passengers: one spatial idea adapted to a different use.
