Cycling Without Age began in Copenhagen in 2012, when Ole Kassow sought a way to bring cycling back to care-home residents. A trishaw made outings possible for people who could no longer pedal themselves.
In England and Wales, volunteers run local chapters and passengers ride free. The three-wheeled cycles have a passenger seat at the front and electric assistance for the pilot. A ride becomes an opportunity to explore a town or enjoy nature together.
A gentle pace leaves room for conversation and memories. Generosity, storytelling and relationships underpin the movement. Time spent together, and the chance to remain part of community life, give these outings their value.
