EuroVelo 19 follows the Meuse through France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The full route stretches roughly 1,050 km from the Langres plateau to Rotterdam, but a shorter ride between Dinant and Namur offers a taste of the river journey.
In Dinant, the citadel rises above the church’s distinctive onion dome; Namur also has imposing fortifications. Along this Belgian valley, cliffs and towns accompany the river’s bends, giving the ride a succession of views worth stopping for.
The official Dinant–Namur stage is 28 km and flat. Cross Dinant bridge and follow the Meuse’s left bank. Near Houx lock, three kilometres have a fine dolomite surface; farther on, asphalt alternates with cobbles. At La Plante lock, stay on the left bank to reach central Namur.
Leave room in the day for coffee, photographs and a walk at the finish. If you also want to visit the citadels, allow separate time for them. Check the current route map and notices before setting off.
