Austria’s EuroVelo 9 links Lower Austria, Vienna and Styria. Arriving from the Weinviertel wine region, riders pass the historic buildings of the Ringstraße: a reason to give Vienna its own sightseeing stop.
South of Vienna, the Thermenradweg continues through vineyards, passing Baden bei Wien and Bad Erlach. Spa towns offer an opportunity to break up the journey with rest days instead of chasing equal daily distances.
Further on, the Wechsel uplands and eastern Styrian hills add climbing. With luggage, consider elevation alongside distance when choosing stages. From Bad Radkersburg, the route follows the Mur cycle path before turning towards Maribor in Slovenia at Spielfeld.
