The Slovak branch of EuroVelo 6 follows the Danube from Bratislava’s Prístavný Bridge to Štúrovo. The route description lists this section as 155.6 km, passing Šamorín, the Gabčíkovo waterworks and Komárno. At Štúrovo, the Mária Valéria Bridge connects the Slovak bank with Esztergom in Hungary.

The route’s development matters when choosing a bank. The Komárno–Štúrovo connection was completed in 2023; a 2025 Ekopolis account describes it as running almost entirely on dedicated cycle paths. That makes this Slovak branch worth considering as part of a longer journey along the Danube.

Allow time for a historical stop near Iža. The Roman military camp on the Danube’s left bank served as a fortified bridgehead for the legionary camp at Brigetio. Its original earth-and-timber defences were later replaced by a stone fort, offering another way to see the river: as an ancient frontier.

If returning by train, check bicycle arrangements for the particular service. Many Slovak trains carry bikes, but capacity, storage arrangements and reservation requirements vary. Save the route for navigation and check current information for the section you intend to ride before departure.
