Gallovidian Gravel is an approximately 330 km cycling loop in southern Scotland, starting and finishing in Dumfries. Cycling UK launched it in June 2026 as its first route entirely within Scotland.
The route links Mabie Forest, the Rockcliffe coast, the harbour town of Kirkcudbright and the remote surroundings of Loch Dee. Forest gravel tracks alternate with quieter paved roads. Three loops of roughly 110 km offer alternatives to the full circuit; even these shorter options require time and stamina.
The route has no continuous waymarking, so prepare the current GPX track and a map. Check changes around the start before setting out: the route page warns of forthcoming diversions associated with flood-defence works.
Distance is only part of the challenge; some stretches are remote. Gravel, forest tracks and quiet local roads make up the main surfaces. Divide the ride to suit your experience and plan overnight stops and food supplies ahead.
