Navigation is most useful when it helps a rider make a decision before the next junction. Garmin’s new Edge Explore 3 and Explore 3 Plus show bike-specific maps and turn-by-turn directions. Riders can compare route options by travel time, total climbing and bicycle type. When plans change, the devices can also surface useful stops farther along the route, such as a café or a place to rest.

Explore 3 Plus differs from the base model by adding a built-in speaker and microphone. They enable audible navigation prompts and voice requests, including asking for a new route; voice control is available only in selected languages and its performance can vary with riding conditions. Both models can show road hazards reported by other riders and share a rider’s location, but connected features require a compatible phone and app. These tools support awareness without replacing attention to the road.

Garmin quotes up to 16 hours for Edge Explore 3 and up to 14 hours for the Plus under demanding use, or up to 48 hours for either model in battery saver mode. Actual runtime will depend on settings and connected accessories. The practical choice is straightforward: riders mainly interested in maps and route selection can consider the base model, while those who want spoken prompts and a speaker should weigh the Plus features and supported languages.
