In northern Poland, a roughly 58-kilometre EuroVelo 9 stage follows the Vistula’s left bank from Gdańsk to Tczew. Starting at Gdańsk railway station makes the trip easy to combine with a train journey, and the route also finishes at Tczew station. It is not riverbank riding from the first pedal stroke: the opening stretch crosses the city and reaches Sobieszewo Island before the most open part begins.
From the Świbno area, the route runs largely along the top of the flood embankment. The Vistula remains in view for much of the way, and a paved surface supports a steady pace. The exposed line offers wide views over the water and lowlands, but it can also mean a headwind. In central Gdańsk, riders should expect more pedestrians and some older cobbled surfaces rather than the uninterrupted embankment path.
Near Tczew, the stage leaves the dyke for the railway station, although a detour to the Vistula boulevard offers a view of the historic bridges. The route can make a satisfying day out for someone who wants to combine urban architecture, open river scenery and a rail return. Check the current route map and train times before setting off, because the city approaches feel quite different from the exposed riverside section.
