Georgena Terry’s path into bicycle building began with curiosity about the frame itself: its materials, construction and brazing. Her engineering background provided a foundation, while basement practice developed her craft. Women later approached her with recurring complaints about the fit of off-the-shelf bicycles.
Terry built her first frame in 1981, and by 1985 her business focused on bicycles for women. Rider-appropriate geometry and component sizes shaped the approach. Today, she continues to offer individually designed bicycles through her own workshop.
The work expanded beyond frames: women’s cycling clothing arrived in 1991, and the Team Terry women’s road squad followed in 2001. Her story shows how a workshop question about fit can influence both equipment and opportunities to ride.
