Caring for a mechanical airbag vest starts with its model instructions and a fabric inspection. Helite says to check for tears before each use. After a heavy fall, uncertainty about the system’s condition calls for advice from the dealer or manufacturer’s service department.

Clean textile gently with soapy water. Do not immerse the vest or machine-wash it; bleach and laundry detergents are unsuitable. Dry it on a hanger in a dry place, away from a tumble dryer or radiator. Keep it hanging for storage rather than folded or rolled.

Helite recommends an annual safety check. For the mechanical system, this includes cartridge weight and condition, plus trigger-system care following the manufacturer’s directions. Compare the weight with the cartridge label and the tolerance specified for the model. Corrosion calls for cartridge replacement and contact with the dealer.

An empty cartridge cannot be reused after deployment. Helite specifies its own cartridges of the appropriate capacity; similar-looking threads alone do not establish compatibility. Replacing the cartridge does not remove the need to assess damage to the vest.
