In Estonia, EuroVelo 10 follows National Route 1 for 981 kilometres along the Baltic coast. Muhu, Saaremaa and Hiiumaa form part of that wider route, so an island journey can also be planned as a trip in its own right.
On Muhu and Saaremaa, paved stretches are interspersed with gravel roads. The described 114-kilometre Hiiumaa section mainly follows quiet paved roads, with cycle paths near Kärdla. Those differences help shape both bicycle choice and daily distances.
The Virtsu–Kuivastu ferry connects the mainland with Muhu; Hiiumaa is reached on the Rohuküla–Heltermaa route. Triigi–Sõru links Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. Together, these port pairs allow a journey through several islands with a return to the mainland at a different point.
Before booking accommodation, check sailings for the actual travel date and conditions for carrying bicycles. Allow time for ports and stops; a coastal cycling route is not a continuous cycle path separated from motor traffic.
