Italy’s market for new powered two-wheelers grew from January to September 2026, but the growth was uneven. Registrations of vehicles over 50 cc reached 313,032, compared with 282,323 in the same nine months of 2025, an increase of 10.88%. That figure covers scooters and motorcycles above the stated engine-size threshold. It excludes smaller mopeds, so it should not be confused with totals for the wider light-vehicle market.
Scooters accounted for 192,668 registrations, up 15.11% from a year earlier. Motorcycles advanced more slowly, to 120,364 registrations, a 4.71% increase. In other words, more than six out of every ten new vehicles counted in this series were scooters. The gap does not mean motorcycles declined; their registrations also rose. It shows which part of this particular market contributed more to the overall increase over the nine-month period.
Registration figures describe new vehicles entering the register, not the entire fleet or the habits of individual riders. They cannot by themselves explain why someone chose one model over another. The different growth rates are nevertheless a useful signal for manufacturers and dealers: even when the overall market expands, demand for scooters and motorcycles can move at different speeds. The full-year picture will depend on the remaining three months.
