Kattegattleden is Sweden’s first national cycle touring route. It links Helsingborg and Gothenburg in eight sections. The full 390 kilometres can be broken into manageable days, with overnight stops and time off the bike chosen to suit your pace.
Halland brings variety to the journey: sandy beaches alternate with coastal towns and open landscapes. Falkenberg offers an old-town stroll, while Varberg has a fortress and seafront promenade to explore. The stops can be as rewarding as the distance covered.
The route is signposted in both directions. Travelling south to north can be more favourable for wind, but the daily forecast matters more than that general tendency. Expect some stretches in mixed traffic; this is not an uninterrupted cycleway separated from cars.
For a shorter trip, ride one section and return by train. Bicycle carriage depends on the particular service’s rules and available space. Before departure, also check current diversions and save the route’s GPX file.
