KOERS, the cycling museum in Roeselare, Belgium, occupies a former fire station on Polenplein. Its first one-day opening took place in 1990; after renovation, the permanent National Cycling Museum opened in 1998. The photograph shows the museum building in 2007.

The collection has three main strands: bicycles, cycling objects and documentary material. The Service Course open store permanently displays forty notable racing bicycles, including machines associated with Tom Boonen and Fabian Cancellara. Visitors can also handle aluminium, carbon-fibre and steel frames to compare the materials.

The research centre holds more than 2,000 book titles and extensive newspaper and magazine collections; visits require an appointment. The museum is at Polenplein 15, less than a kilometre’s walk from Roeselare station. Check current opening hours and tickets before travelling.
