La Véloscénie links Paris and Mont-Saint-Michel over roughly 450 kilometres. About half follows dedicated cycle routes; the rest uses quiet shared roads. The section you choose therefore shapes the experience.
Between Alençon and Bagnoles-de-l’Orne, two alternatives offer different rides. The Pré-en-Pail-Saint-Samson option mainly follows dedicated cycle paths with gentler terrain. The Carrouges option uses country roads with more pronounced climbs. Choose according to your interests and energy.
Surface matters near Paris too: the Limours variant has a rough section around the Fauvettes Viaduct that can become muddy in wet weather. It is not recommended for road bikes.
Our planning suggestion is to compare distance, elevation and surface for every day. Leave time for visits and rest; with children, consider their experience in shared traffic as well. A thoughtful choice of stages helps make the journey as rewarding as the destination.
