Lauf Grit forks are recognisable by the flexible springs beside the front axle. The Grit SL combines a carbon-fibre body with S2 glass-fibre springs that bend in the direction of suspension travel.

The Grit SL offers 30 mm of travel with a progressive spring rate: resistance increases as the fork compresses. It has neither hydraulic damping nor a lockout.

The third-generation Grit retains 30 mm travel but accommodates tyres up to 700 × 57 mm, compared with the Grit SL’s stated 700 × 45 mm limit. The photograph shows the earlier Grit SL on an Orbea Gain.

Generation matters when comparing these forks. Before a replacement, check dimensions, axle and headset compatibility against the bicycle’s frame and front wheel.
