Cannondale’s Lefty Ocho supports the front wheel only from the left. One leg and a single crown create an unusual silhouette, but the most interesting part of the structure is inside.

Three connected sets of needle bearings guide the telescoping movement. Their rollers run along bearing surfaces, while a three-sided interface prevents the inner leg rotating within the outer tube. Vertical movement thus remains tied to a defined wheel direction.

The design also entails specific component compatibility. The Ocho 100 mm manual specifies a Lefty 60 hub and StopLock brake mount. A fork or wheel change therefore requires checking the exact model’s requirements, beyond wheel diameter alone.

Maintenance is part of the design too. The current Ocho schedule calls for inspection before every ride and a 100-hour or annual service. Harsh conditions warrant shorter intervals. Identifying the precise model and its manual is the starting point for both adjustments and workshop discussions.
