A glossy finish is only the beginning of a used-motorcycle inspection. Ducati’s checklist for certified pre-owned bikes lays out a wider process: confirming completed maintenance and the next service, checking the standard equipment and keys, and asking about earlier accidents. It also looks for signs of impacts to the motorcycle’s underlying structure and checks whether the equipment complies with the rules in the country of use. These records and observations help frame what still needs a closer look in person.

The mechanical inspection reaches beyond tyre tread. The checklist covers fork and rear shock seals, wheel and steering bearings, brake discs and pads, chain tension, and leaks from the engine or cooling system. Brake and clutch fluid levels and the controls are checked separately. One visible sign rarely explains the whole vehicle; several findings together can reveal whether its present condition matches the maintenance story offered with it.

Electronics matter as well. Ducati includes an electronic control-unit check, available updates and outstanding recall campaigns, alongside battery charge, lights and electronic safety systems. A ride then assesses braking, the gearbox, clutch and unusual noises. For a buyer, the practical lesson is that paperwork, a careful physical inspection and a ride answer different questions. Combining them gives a firmer basis for a decision than any one of them alone.
