A tidy appearance is only a starting point when choosing a used motorcycle. Inspect it in daylight, beginning with the tyres: look at tread, uneven wear, cracks and visible damage. Check the wheels, brake discs and pads too. These parts affect both riding safety and the costs you may face after purchase.

Next, examine the controls. The handlebars should turn freely, the throttle should return when released, and levers and cables should be free of damage. Check that the headlight, indicators and brake light work. Look around the engine and beneath the bike for signs of oil, coolant or brake-fluid leaks, and examine the frame and suspension.

A visual check helps identify questions, but it cannot replace a professional assessment. If you are unsure what a finding means, arrange an inspection at an independent workshop before deciding. It can give you a clearer view of the motorcycle’s condition and likely repair needs.
