For the 2026 Triumph Originals challenge, teams from seven countries created individual Scrambler builds around the theme “Time Capsule.” Liz Rubin and the Triumph Columbia River team in Portland looked to the Pacific Northwest, where forest roads and the pleasure of the journey matter as much as the destination.
Rubin drew on US Forest Service vehicles and childhood memories of Smokey Bear in the Rocky Mountains. She paired those references with custom details and a simple guiding idea: make a motorcycle she would want to ride every day. The result treats nostalgia as part of a usable machine rather than decoration alone.
Rubin has worked at Triumph dealerships since 2001. Her first custom project was a 2000 Legend stripped into a bobber. Her approach is encouraging: a personal motorcycle starts with a clear vision and the resolve to act on it. The Portland Scrambler shows how local landscape, community work and a rider’s own experience can meet in one bike.
