Marianne Vos’s career refuses to fit into a single cycling discipline. In 2006 she became world champion in both cyclo-cross and the road race. Track titles followed, and in 2024 gravel racing joined her winning range.
Two Olympic gold medals show that versatility on another stage: Vos won the points race on the track at Beijing 2008 and the road race at London 2012. Velodrome laps and racing on open roads belong to the same career.
In Fayetteville in 2022, she took her eighth elite cyclo-cross world title, 16 years after her first. Vos beat Lucinda Brand in the finishing sprint. The result highlights more than success across disciplines: it also shows the ability to return to the top many years later.
At the 2024 Gravel World Championships in Belgium, Vos beat Lotte Kopecky after 135 kilometres, completing a collection of world titles in four disciplines. Her career is a reason to follow a rider across different racing calendars: courses and surfaces change, while timing a decisive sprint remains essential. The portrait dates from June 2015.
