Maria Herrera secured a second consecutive FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship title at Jerez on 17 October. Fifth place in the weekend’s first race was enough to make her the first rider to win WorldWCR twice. It was the result of a season-long campaign rather than a single fortunate race: she regularly fought at the front with Beatriz Neila and Paola Ramos.

The path to that record has not been straight. Herrera narrowly missed the inaugural WorldWCR title in 2024, then won it in 2025. Before the 2026 season, the Spanish rider left her title-winning Klint squad for Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha. The team around her changed, but her ability to contend for victories did not.

Herrera arrived at Jerez with a 44-point lead. Fifth place in Race 1 was sufficient to retain the title before the season’s final race. Her progress shows the value of consistency over several years: a near miss became a first championship, followed by a team switch and a successful defence.
