Plan a long storage period before the final ride. Choose a dry, secure space accessible throughout winter. A garage alone cannot solve moisture and inactivity problems.
Wash and thoroughly dry the motorcycle; clean and lubricate its drive chain where fitted. Cover only after the engine and exhaust cool. Choose breathable material rather than a covering that traps moisture.
Check the owner’s manual for battery removal and charger requirements. Charge in a ventilated, frost-free location. Do not assume that any charger in the garage is suitable.
Fuel-system preparation varies by model. Follow the manufacturer’s fuel-storage and stabiliser instructions. Review oil, filter and coolant maintenance requirements before parking; leave unfamiliar work to a workshop.
Periodically check moisture under the cover, battery charge and tyre pressure. Before returning to the road, inspect tyres, check fluid levels and complete the manual’s pre-ride checks.
