Temperature is not the only consideration when storing motorcycle tyres; tyre type matters too. Continental distinguishes conventional sport, touring and off-road tyres from track racing tyres in its storage guidance. It advises against storing the latter below 0°C because cold can leave the compound vulnerable to cracking.

If a tyre has been exposed to 0°C or less, Continental recommends letting it warm to around 20°C for at least 24 hours before mounting or flexing it. Tyres should be kept clean, dark, dry and moderately ventilated, away from direct sunlight, oils, solvents and heat sources.

Before a tyre goes back on the motorcycle, inspect it for damage or foreign objects and set the recommended riding pressure. These figures are one manufacturer’s guidance; owners of other tyre models should follow the instructions for their own tyres.
