In France’s Perche region, a former railway has become a cycling destination. The 67 km greenway connects Condé-sur-Huisne and Alençon and has been developed for cycling since 2010. The old railway linked these towns for more than a century.

This corridor forms part of La Véloscénie, the 450 km route between Paris and Mont-Saint-Michel. The Perche section can be a trip in its own right, leaving time for small villages, manor houses and green countryside.

For a shorter day, the roughly 15 km Mortagne-au-Perche–Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe stage is rated for beginners and families in the route guide. A gentle gradient marks its opening kilometres, while the destination’s centre and lake are a short distance from the path. The guide records some rougher surfacing, so this should not be treated as an entirely paved cycleway.

Starting at Condé-sur-Huisne station skips the initial road connection from Nogent-le-Rotrou. Wider tyres suit the unpaved sections. The guide currently reports the last two greenway kilometres before Mortagne-au-Perche closed, with a signed diversion along minor roads. Check the current route, diversions and your chosen train’s bicycle rules before travelling.
