Pinion MGU combines an electric motor and gearbox in one unit. Versions offer nine or twelve gears, with a 600% range on the twelve-speed system. Electronic shifting does not require a pedal stroke, allowing gear selection while stationary.
Drive to the rear wheel can use a Pinion Longlife chain or a compatible Gates belt. The particular bicycle’s specification matters: conversion from chain to belt requires permission from its manufacturer.
The shifting mechanism is protected inside the housing and needs no shifting adjustments. Service guidance specifies an oil change every 10,000 km. That does not remove the need for normal bicycle care: tyres, brakes and the external drive still require attention.
