The Upper Middle Rhine Valley packs a rich cultural landscape into the 67-kilometre stretch from the Bingen and Rüdesheim area to Koblenz: castles, steep vineyards and small settlements. This UNESCO World Heritage landscape gives a cycling trip a rhythm in which stops matter as much as distance.
Farther north, EuroVelo 15 passes through Bonn, Cologne and Düsseldorf. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the route runs on both banks of the Rhine, allowing city visits to shape a separate chapter of the journey. Germany’s Rhine Cycle Route also forms part of D-Route 8 in the national long-distance cycling network.
Start planning with the experience you want: vineyard and castle scenery, or city museums and waterfronts. Then connect your stops on the official route map and check the course of your chosen section. You do not need to cover the entire river to give a trip a clear story; extra time in one city may offer more than another long day in the saddle.
