Royal Enfield is marking 125 years with a limited Classic 650 whose story is chiefly in its finish. The company plans a worldwide run of 625 motorcycles. Called Hypershift, the anniversary paint changes character with the light and viewing angle, moving between red and gold tones. That makes it more than a conventional single-colour collector’s edition: the appearance of the motorcycle can shift as its surroundings change.

The details point back to the marque’s history. Hand-painted pinstripes decorate the tank, a 125-year crest sits on the side panel, and the seat has a quilted finish. Beneath that treatment is the familiar Classic 650 platform with a 648 cc parallel-twin engine. The anniversary machine is therefore not an entirely new mechanical idea. It uses an existing motorcycle as the basis for a story about craft and visual design.

Interest in the small production run begins before the motorcycles reach dealers. The company describes advance registration and different sale dates in different markets, so terms announced for one country should not be read as an offer in Latvia. This edition shows how a maker can mark a milestone through materials, handwork and a tightly defined production number, rather than relying solely on a new performance figure.
