Norway’s Ryfylke scenic route covers 260 kilometres between Oanes and Håra, including branches through Sauda and along road 13. For a motorcycle trip, choose stops in advance and leave time for walking.
At the former Allmannajuvet zinc mines, landscape meets industrial history. Mining ran from 1881 to 1899; the site now has a museum complex with buildings designed by Zumthor & Partner, paths and stairs. The café, gallery and guided tours operate seasonally, so check their availability separately.
Another stop is Svandalsfossen, between Sauda and Ropeid. A staircase of 540 steps brings visitors closer to the waterfall and its green surroundings. Allow time off the motorcycle here and bring footwear comfortable for climbing stairs.
Road 520 between Helandsbygd and Røldal closes in winter; mountain sections are narrow and winding. Before departure, check current traffic notices and ferry times for your chosen itinerary. Assess access to the mountain section against conditions on the day.
