Route 101 runs 38 kilometres from Salacgrīva to Tūja via Vitrupe, Meleki and the Ķurmrags area. This signed, linear route opens up the Vidzeme coast to both cyclists and walkers. Blue markers help with navigation, but a one-way ride also calls for a plan to get back from the finish.

The surface changes often: asphalt in town gives way to gravel and forest roads, paths, sandy stretches and a rocky shoreline. On the beach, riders may encounter stones, fallen trees and steep descents. Forest sections can also become difficult after rain, so this is more demanding than a simple seaside spin.

The route guide recommends May to September as the best period. When planning a ride for the next season, allow a flexible day and work out the return journey from Tūja in advance. The reward is the variety of the coast: woodland, historic buildings and one of Latvia’s rockiest seascapes in a single trip.
