The Saar-Radweg starts in Sarreguemines, France, and ends in Konz, where the Saar meets the Moselle. The roughly 111-kilometre route is mostly flat, with asphalt covering 91 percent of its surface: a gentle basis for a journey with sightseeing stops.
Saarbrücken’s old town, the Völklingen Ironworks and fortified Saarlouis provide contrasting stops. Farther along, wooded hills frame the river and the Saarschleife bend becomes the landscape’s centrepiece.
The Cloef viewpoint requires a climb away from the flat riverside route, so allow a separate break. The final section passes through Saarburg to Konz. Leave time for towns when planning daily distances, and check current route information before departure.
