Rinse dirt from a Gates Carbon Drive system with water; the belt needs no lubrication. Keep the drivetrain stationary while cleaning so fingers and clothing stay clear of the belt and sprockets. Remove debris trapped in the sprockets regularly, too.

Never twist, sharply fold or backbend a removed belt. These actions can damage its internal carbon cords even when the outer surface looks intact. During installation, do not force the belt onto a sprocket by rolling or levering it into place.

Check tension together with alignment. A slack belt can skip teeth, while excessive tension increases component wear. Use a suitable gauge or an app that measures vibration frequency after gently plucking the belt. Take readings at several belt positions and compare them with the bicycle’s instructions; one frequency value should not be applied to every drivetrain.
