In Slītere National Park, an old railway alignment links Mazirbe and Sīkrags. The narrow-gauge line once served the fishing villages of northern Kurzeme; today its trace forms part of a cycling route. The 17 km loop starts by the Livonian Community House in Mazirbe and returns from Sīkrags on the P124 road.
The route includes a levelled forest track, with a road section on the way back. Plan for both the surface and the traffic, even though the distance is modest. The route guide recommends April to October; outside that period, weather and track conditions need especially careful checking. Consult the current map before leaving and carry water and a spare tube.
Along the way, the former station sites in both villages and wooden bridges over the Mazirbe and Ķikāns waterways recall the line’s earlier life. Those details reward an unhurried ride and give the coastal landscape a layer of history. Follow the marked route and tread lightly in the national park.
