Tern introduced the third-generation HSD on July 15, 2026: a compact electric cargo bike for everyday trips with shopping or one passenger. Its redesigned frame has a longer wheelbase and lower centre of gravity. The new generation uses fifth-generation Bosch drive systems.
The HSD can park and roll vertically, while its folding handlepost reduces storage height. Drivetrain equipment varies: the S9i combines Bosch eShift with a 3X3 NINE geared hub and Gates belt, while the P10e offers automatic shifting through a TRP system that follows the rider’s chosen pedalling cadence.
Loading involves two separate limits: a maximum gross vehicle weight of 190 kg and an 80 kg rear-rack capacity. Gross weight includes the bike and battery, riders, accessories and cargo; the rack limit also includes accessories fitted to it. The weight of shopping you can carry therefore depends on the actual equipment and riders. The image illustrates everyday shopping by bicycle.
