The UCI has set up a steering group to shape the next stage of professional road cycling reform. Alongside the governing body’s leaders, it includes representatives of race organisers, teams and riders, elected members of the UCI Athletes’ Commission, and representatives of major women’s and men’s events and teams. Deloitte has been appointed as a strategic adviser. The group has not yet announced changes to racing rules or the calendar.

Its work follows the consultation on the future of road cycling launched in February 2026. According to the UCI, contributors converged on four central concerns: rider safety, financial equity between teams, the race calendar, and commercial and media rights. These issues overlap. Calendar decisions shape riders’ workloads and teams’ season planning, while the distribution of revenue affects how sustainably teams can compete at the highest level.

The group first met in Geneva on 6 October. Two more meetings are planned before a UCI seminar in Benidorm, Spain, on 9 and 10 December, when the broad direction of the reform is due to be presented. The UCI says initial measures could be introduced as early as the 2029 season. The challenge now is to turn shared concerns into practical proposals that organisers, teams and riders can support.
