Deutsche Alpenstraße runs from Lindau on Lake Constance to Schönau am Königssee. This 484-kilometre route through Bavaria combines winding roads, meadows, forests and lakes. It lends itself to a journey with stops, as each region brings a different landscape.
The route includes Oberjoch Pass and the areas around Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Further east, it also crosses Sudelfeld Pass into the Inn valley. Signs mark both directions, so either end can be your starting point.
Allow several days for the whole journey or choose one section with a longer stop. In autumn, account for cooler higher stretches, wet leaves and possible ice. Check the day’s weather and traffic restrictions before departure, and save the current route in your navigation device.
