Germany recorded 173,137 new powered two-wheeler registrations in the first three quarters of 2026, up 24.2 percent from the same period a year earlier. September alone contributed 16,615 registrations, an 18.1 percent rise. The headline increase, however, does not describe every kind of motorcycle and scooter equally.

By the end of September, the 125 cc class had reached 55,630 new registrations, 37.9 percent ahead of the previous year. Larger scooters reached 16,365, an increase of 30.7 percent. Registrations of larger motorcycles rose by 16.8 percent. The gap suggests that machines suited to everyday mobility are doing more to set the current market pace than the traditional larger-motorcycle segment alone.

Ownership transfers of used motorcycles and scooters fell 3 percent to 407,222 over the same nine months. A simple comparison with new sales would be misleading, because short-term registrations had inflated parts of the previous year’s market. These figures are most useful as a picture of how Germany’s market mix changed during this period. They do not, by themselves, predict prices or demand elsewhere in Europe.
