Norway’s Valdresflye scenic route follows road 51 between Garli and Hindsæter, including a detour to Gjende. It covers 49 kilometres and reaches 1,389 metres above sea level. Much of the road crosses an open plateau above the treeline.
Build distinct stops into the ride. Rjupa, on the climb above Bygdin, looks towards Bitihorn and the Vinstervatn area. Vargebakkane offers views of high peaks and Besseggen. For a motorcyclist, these designated parking areas provide a chance to leave the bike and explore the scenery on foot between stretches of riding.
The section between Garli and Maurvangen closes in winter, and bad weather can also bring restrictions. Check current road conditions and the forecast before setting off. Leave time for photographs and a warm break, and choose accommodation that avoids pressure to cross the plateau when conditions deteriorate.
