The Varanger scenic route stretches 160 km from Varangerbotn to Hamningberg. Broad sea horizons and coastal settlements give this motorcycle touring idea its appeal. Fishing is no longer active in the final village, although some houses remain in use as holiday cabins.

At the Domen viewpoint, three small buildings designed by Biotope provide shelter from the elements. Views reach across the fjord and open sea towards Vardø. It is a stop where riding can briefly give way to watching the landscape.

The Svartnes–Hamningberg section is narrow and winding. The road between Smelror and Hamningberg closes in winter, and bad weather can bring temporary restrictions too. Check live road information and the forecast before setting out, rather than relying on an earlier opening date.
