An archipelago ride does not always have to revolve around ferry timetables. The Velhovesi ring route in the northern Uusikaupunki archipelago runs for about 50 kilometres around a freshwater basin, following roads that require no boat crossing. That makes it a manageable full-day ride or the basis for a gentler coastal trip with an overnight stop.
Orange circles mark the main loop in a clockwise direction, while green circles and arrows point towards side roads. Possible diversions include the ends of Lepäistentie and Lyökintie, the village of Pyhämaa, the Pitkäluoto spit and the historic Männäinen ironworks. These turns give riders a reason to leave room in the schedule: views across the water and time spent stopping are part of the appeal, not simply interruptions to a 50-kilometre target.
The route description lists beaches, rest spots, shops, cafés and accommodation, though individual opening hours should be checked before travel. Visit Finland recommends riding from April through September, so autumn is a sensible time to plan for the next season. Anyone adding the side roads and unhurried stops should treat the stated distance as the core loop rather than a fixed total for the day.
