In cycle-ball, or radball, teams of two score using their bicycle wheels or heads. Goalkeepers may also use their hands inside their penalty area. Matches have two seven-minute halves, while the specialised bikes’ fixed gear allows players to ride backwards.
In Britain, a new community began in 2014 when coach Felix Young played football on mountain bikes with a youth group in Bath. A game for fun developed into a long-term ambition to establish cycle-ball.
Contacts with German players and donated bikes helped from 2018. By 2022, Britain was competing at the World Championships. In this story, cooperation between clubs matters as much as skill with the ball.
