A bicycle commute depends on more than the route to work. What waits at the other end matters too: secure parking, a place to change and support for keeping a bike in good condition. In 2026, Europe’s cycle-friendly employer certification operates in 17 countries, recognising more than 2,000 employers whose workforces together exceed 1.4 million people.
Luxembourg and Serbia joined the network this year. Existing participants show that solutions vary. Some improve bicycle parking, while others add changing facilities or give employees a chance to try electric bikes.
At Diageo’s Dublin workplace, the share of employees cycling to work rose from 3% to 10% over two years. That is one workplace’s experience, not a promise that a single measure will have the same effect everywhere. It does show why practical conditions at the destination matter to an everyday ride.
