Hydraulic bicycle brake fluid must match the specific model. SRAM DB8 brakes use Maxima Mineral Brake Oil, developed with SRAM. The brand name alone does not identify the correct fluid.
SRAM hydraulic disc brakes designed for DOT fluid require DOT 4 or DOT 5.1. Other fluids can damage seals and make complete brake replacement necessary. Mineral oil and DOT fluid are not interchangeable.
Bleeding tools must match too. DB8 lever and caliper ports accept the SRAM Mineral Oil bleed kit; a DOT kit does not fit. Before servicing, check the model designation, specified fluid and required kit in the manual.
